Multi Color reveals apprentice success

Multi Color Australia, also known as MCC Label, has had a string of successful apprentices taking out LIA awards in South Australia, and has shared with Australian Printer its recipe for success.

The company took home the employer award, at the LIA-Heidelberg Award night, further recognition of its formula, of promoting apprenticeships within the business to upskill workers and deepen their knowledge base.

The company has 21 apprentices nationally, and 11 in South Australia, where Jonathan Pitt took home the Graduate of the Year Award.

Andrew Reynolds, national training manager, Multi Color Australia, explains, “Apprentices have always been a focus for us, to look after the future of the business.

“We have a strong retention rate, and a high success rate for completion.

“We try to be an employer of choice, and offer opportunities for people to develop and grow within the business. It is an internal opportunity as well as a career development opportunity.”

Entry level workers completing basic tasks are encouraged to skill-up as apprentices, as Reynolds says they already know the company, the business, and the industry.

“We find that you get a good commitment,” he says, “they come in as machine assistants, factory hands, factory staff. The apprenticeships gives them a trade qualification, and a real understanding of the whole process.”
